This body of work serves as an exploration of human experiences, executed through the motif of the obscured face. Old family photographs and memories are chosen to represent emotional moments in my life. Manipulating through oil paint and drawing media, I subject these images to be influenced by Surrealism. Playing with layers and techniques of disruption allude to the Surrealist idea of a distorted memory or a dream, the pre-existing or the reinterpreted. The body of work participates in the discourse of self-portraiture, in an order to attempt to realise my own identity through my real world experiences.
